EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing

EMDR, which stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a type of psychotherapy that helps people heal from trauma and other distressing life experiences. It involves processing traumatic memories while engaging in specific eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation. EMDR is recognized as an effective treatment for PTSD and other conditions. I completed my EMDR training through the EMDR International Association.

Somatic Experiencing

Somatic experiencing treats trauma and other nervous system conditions by focusing on internal physical sensations rather than thoughts and memories. It helps to identify where energy is trapped in the body that keeps people in a fight, flight or freeze response. Engaging in the movements of somatic experiencing and noticing this energy helps to restore the nervous system to a state of calm regulation. In my work with individuals using somatic experiencing, I have found it to be a fairly gentle way of going into the body and noticing uncomfortable sensations so that they can be effectively released. People often feel less stuck in life and more able to move towards things in life that parts of them have been wanting to pursue.

IFS

Internal Family Systems

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapeutic approach that views the mind as comprised of various “parts” or sub-personalities, each with unique roles and functions. It emphasizes that these parts can be understood and healed through compassion and acceptance, guided by the individual’s core Self. IFS aims to foster harmony within the internal system by understanding the relationships between parts and the core Self, ultimately promoting healing and well-being. I was trained in IFS through the IFS institute.

Brainspotting

Brainspotting is a therapeutic method focused on identifying, processing, and releasing emotional and physical pain, trauma, and other challenging symptoms. It works by pinpointing specific “brainspots” within a person’s visual field that correlate with these issues, and then facilitating the processing of these areas. Essentially, it’s a way to access and heal deep-seated trauma and emotional distress by leveraging the connection between the brain and the visual field.

IFIO Couples Therapy

Intimacy From the Inside Out couples therapy is rooted in the Internal Family Systems Model. It helps partners to focus on and address their internal emotions and psychological patters that are affecting their relationship. It aims to foster improved self-awareness, self-compassion and improved communication within the couple. IFIO helps people to identify emotional triggers and how their past experiences are influencing their current relationships. It helps couples to shift from blaming and defensiveness to open and compassionate communication. It also helps to build a more intimate attachment amongst partners.
